Our Services

Below is a list of the services we offer, for more information relating to any of these services please contact us.

dental-veneersDental veneers are used to treat a wide variety of dental issues. These include stained, damaged or crooked teeth, as well as covering gaps.

The veneer is bonded to the surface of the tooth to improve the tooth's cosmetic appearance.

Veneers are available in a variety of tooth colored materials including porcelain, ceramic and composite bonding materials, your dentist will discuss with you the best type of veneer for your situation.

Porcelain veneers offer a stronger more resistant finish than that of composite veneers, have a very natural appearance and with good care can last between 5 and 10 years.

Composite veneers can be more prone to staining, but are particularly good for making small repairs as the process of attaching a composite veneer preserves more of the tooth's natural structure than that of porcelain veneers. With good care composite veneers can last between 1 to 2 years.

We have an onsite CEREC machine which can produce high-quality custom ceramic veneers in as little as six minutes. This CEREC technology enables us to offer a single-visit with ceramic veneers that are fitted within one hour. To read more about CEREC, look at the CEREC service page.

Dental Implants

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are a method of restoration where the root portion of your tooth is replaced by an artificial substitute. The implant is placed into a socket created in the jawbone. The implant can then be used to anchor a crown, bridge or denture.

Why choose a Dental Implant?

When a tooth is lost sometimes an unsightly gap is created and a hole is left where the healthy root used to be. The surrounding bone area will, overtime begin to erode and this can lead to changes in the shape of your jaw.Using a dental implant to perform the restoration not only increases the aesthetic appeal by removing the gap but can help to reduce bone loss in the jaw by stimulating growth.

Each implant is placed separately and is completely independent of any surrounding teeth, this means that surrounding healthy teeth need not be prepared or altered to accommodate the implant.

Implants do not require any specialist cleaning or aftercare as is the case with removable bridges and dentures. All that is required is good ora lhygiene, brushing, flossing and dental checkups as you would with your natural teeth. In fact once the implant has been correctly set and embedded they function in the same manner as your natural teeth allowing you to eat and talk with confidence.

Dental implants can be made in a wide variety of shades and your dentis twill work to ensure that the finished result is indistinguishable from your surrounding teeth providing a high quality cosmetic result.

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics)

At Blairdaff Dental Practice we utilise CEREC technology to bring you the very best in chairside dentistry. Whether you require a crown, veneer or inlay, using this process allows us to design, manufacture and fit your restoration in one visit which is a vast improvement on traditional restoration methods which can take several visits/weeks to complete.

The CEREC Process

Your teeth are prepared for restoration then a digital image is taken. This image is then converted into a three dimensional model. Your dentist then uses this model to prepare the design of your restoration.

The final design is then manufactured immediately on site using our CEREC milling machine, depending on the complexity of the restoration this process can take between 6 minutes and one hour. Restorations are manufactured from high quality ceramic blocks, these are available in a wide range of colours and shades, your dentist will match the shade to the teeth surrounding the restoration. Additionally, it is possible to further ensure an excellent character match by adding finishes such as glazing, staining and polishing to the finished restoration.

Your new restoration will then be fitted.

Our chairside service means that you benefit from restorations which were designed for you by your own dentist and not by a laboratory technician whom you have never met. As the work is carried out in a single visit there is no need to have any temporary restorations fitted. Also, the single visit reduces the number of local anaesthetic injections you will need.

For more information, or to arrange an appointment to discuss your needs please contact us.

Aesthetic Dentistry (bleaching)

whiteningAs a person ages, the adult teeth often become darker as the enamel is less porous. Certain medication can also cause stains and a reduction in the brilliance of the enamel. We use Oxidising agents to lighten the shade of the tooth.

Power bleaching uses light energy to accelerate and intensify the process, which is used in our practice.

The effects of bleaching can last for several months, but may dependent on the lifestyle of the patient. The chair side method is most commonly used in our practice, as this allows complete control of the process.

Fillings (no amalgam only composites with no extra charge)

curing_lightHere at Blairdaff, we only use composite fillings (at no extra charge). The composite fillings offer a strong, safe and more natural looking alternative to amalgam.

What is a composite filling?

A filling is a type of restorative dentistry treatment used to repair minimal tooth fractures, tooth decay or otherwise damaged surfaces of the teeth.

The composite fillings are made from powdered glass quartz and ceramic particles added to a resin base. After the tooth is prepared, the filling is bonded onto the area a light is then used to set it.

What are the advantages of composite fillings?

The composite fillings come in a range of shades that can be closely matched to your natural teeth, allowing for a near invisible restoration of your teeth.

In many cases, tooth sensitivity caused by enamel loss as a result of decay will be significantly improved if not eliminated once a filling is in place.

When a composite filling is used, it provides an effective barrier against bacteria and strengthens the structure of the tooth.

Prosthodontics Dentures (crown and bridgeworks)

Prosthetics are a dental speciality of rehabilitation and maintenance of oral function, appearance and health of the patient, with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth. At Blairdaff dental practice we offer a wide tange of dental prosthetics including:-

Crowns and Bridgework

Crowns: type of dental restoration, which caps a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are required when cavities are too large and threaten the stability and health of a tooth.
Bridge: is a dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth, by joining permamently to adjacent teeth or dental implants. The abutment teeth or implants are reduced in size to accomodate the material used to restore the size and shape of original teeth in correct alignment and contact with the opponent teeth.

Crown and bridgework in our practice are produced without using impressions, but using a scaning system, which allows you to leave the practice with the finished product in one session. For more information realting to the CEREC process please refer to the CEREC services page.

Dentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth. They are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissue of the oral cavity. These devices are removable.
Full dentures are worn by patients who are missing all their teeth in a single arch.

Telescopic Dentures

A telescopic denture is based on a double crown. The primary crown will be cemented to a tooth or implant whereas the secondary crown is part of the denture. The main advantage of a telescopic denture is the bodily grip of the teeth and the avoiding of any movements under any circumstances. Telescopic Dentures allow the wearer to chew as if they had their own teeth.

Partial Dentures

Partial Dentures can be clasp retained or made of flexible material. For people who still have enough teeth left for the dentures to hold on to.

Keyslide Dentures

Keyslides are a combination of dentures linked to crowns by micromechanics. These allow using abutment teeth in visible areas, without compromising the aesthetic outcome, as they are ceramic- bonded crowns.

Periodontology (gum treatment)

Gum-Disease1Periodontal diseases take on many different forms, but are usually a result of bacteria plaque biofilm accumulation of the gingiva and teeth, combined with host immunable inflammatory mechanisms and other risk factors leading to the destruction of supporting bone around the teeth. Untreated, these diseases lead to alveolus boneloss and tooth loss. It is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and successful outcome of treatment also depends on compliance of patients. Our dentists and hygienists are trained to the lastest standard in Periodontology.

Prophylaxis (oral hygiene)

oral-hygieneAt Blairdaff Dental Practice we understand that preventative dental care is always an individual task as we all have different circumstances (lifestyle, age, etc). Our oral hygiene training programme is designed with you to meet your individual needs. It will enable you to protect your teeth and prevent future damage.
